Job Description

The Budding Minds Team is excited for new Adventure Leads to join our team! We are looking to fill two full time positions starting in the new school year - beginning of September 2025. Come join the Budding Minds fun, adventuring and educating children in nature in beautiful Golden, BC!

Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • Early Childhood Education diploma, or Bachelor of Outdoor Education/ Bachelor of Child and Youth Care or equivalent is a definite asset;. Must have experience working with children and experience working in an outdoor setting 
  • Approved criminal record check, with vulnerable sector check 
  • Valid first aid/CPR certificate
  • Applicant will demonstrate a willingness and a capability of working in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold) with the ability to walk distances over uneven terrain, carry a backpack and perform light lifting duties (firewood etc)
  • Applicant will enact teaching duties with enthusiasm regardless of weather conditions 
  • Applicant will understand and have the tools to apply the value of risky play, emergent learning philosophies and play/place based learning
  • Communication via cell phone is necessary 
  • Successful candidate will be up to date on all vaccinations and immunizations

Description/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and location of all children while they are participating in a wide variety of activities including, but not limited to, forest play, hiking, climbing trees, creek play, fire building, tool work 
  • Responsible for effective communication with parents regarding their child’s participation and exploration in the program
  • Responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of program supplies and tools, along with daily preparation of site and learning materials
  • Work with co-educators to plan, prepare and implement activities based on the children’s interests, seasons and current “happenings” in the forest, and to debrief with co-educators at the end of the day
  • Willingness to attend educator meetings, training, parent meetings and Forest School related events 
  •  A desire to complete the Forest School Canada Practitioner’s course, if not already completed
  • Advocating for inclusion and deepening indigenous knowledge and culture
  • Communicating frequently and effectively with the Budding Minds team, and families ensuring clear expectations and positive relationships
  • Understanding and following  Budding Minds philosophies, policies, and procedures
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all information related to the programs, staff, children, and  families

Logistical Overview

  • Full time hours (varies between 30-40 hours per week)
  • Wage depends on experience; Pay rate starting at $24-26/hour (such payments will be subject to mandatory employment related costs – tax, CPP, etc.)
  • Contracts will run from September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026, with the possibility to extend the contract and summer work opportunities. 
  • Health spending account available and paid professional development opportunities

Compensation

$24.00-$26.00/per hour
